Project HELP at SOSD Discovery Center

About

Project HELP operates under the federal McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act to ensure that students experiencing housing instability in the Starkville Oktibbeha Consolidated School District can attend school regularly and succeed academically. The program provides a range of direct support services, including:
Basic Needs & Academic Supplies: Distributes free school supplies, backpacks, clothing, personal hygiene items, and academic tutoring support.
School Enrollment & Continuity: Helps families quickly enroll children in school without delay due to missing records and ensures students can remain in their school of origin.
Supportive & Mental Health Services: Connects students and families to counseling resources, district support initiatives, and community referrals.

Who is eligible

This program is designed for children and youth in the Starkville Oktibbeha Consolidated School District who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence (including families living in shared housing due to economic hardship, motels, shelters, or temporary living situations).

Spanish language support
