About
Helping Hands Starkville is an emergency financial safety-net program managed by the Starkville Community Foundation (in partnership with Starkville Utilities, local churches, and community partners). The project aims to prevent evictions by assisting families who are one unexpected bill away from losing their housing. Core offerings include:
Direct Financial Aid: Provides qualifying residents up to $250 directly toward an electricity or utility bill (paid straight to the provider). Assistance can be accessed once every six months.
Mandatory Financial Education: To promote long-term stability, participants complete mini-courses on lowering home energy costs, establishing a monthly savings budget, and improving job prospects.
Partner Referrals: Connects participants to wraparound support through organizations like Starkville Strong, Habitat for Humanity, and the J. L. King Center for GED courses, job readiness, and deeper case management.
